A Market Announcement

It's happening! So many times over the past year, customers at Spruce Collective have asked if we will ever host another market? We weren`t so sure if we had the time and energy - that store is a lot of work!
Who would have thought! lol

Well, as our one-year anniversary approaches we have been reminiscing about the great adventure we call Spruce Collective. Thinking about how we all met, and the great markets that Lily hosted that brought us all together...

In honour of that (and the fact that we love a good market), we have decided to jump in with both feet as - we do with most things around Spruce Collective and host: The Urban Market at High Street!

Personally I`m so excited for this event as I can`t wait to see all the friendly faces and fellow creators that I am sure will attend! It`s like a party atmosphere with shopping...what more could a girl want?

You can submit your vendor application by clicking the link below...

Hope to see you there!

Another Brick In The Wall

I have all but given up on finding the time to blog anymore with the store (Spruce Collective) keeping me so busy, but from time to time I receive questions on my DIY projects that people see on Facebook or Instagram.
This weekend I had the opportunity to do a little bedroom makeover that I'm getting asked about so I thought I could probably explain it best by doing a quick little post here...
I knew I wanted the look of brick in our bedroom, without spending the big bucks and hiring a mason to do it.
This is the picture that inspired me - I mean who wouldn't be inspired...isn't it amazing?!

So, like is budget for brick to Rona
(Lowe's for those of you in the USA that are asking)...Hi Kelly!
They sell brick panelling - yes, I said panelling - like in your grandma's basement...but just stay with me...
This is what it looks like in the back of a mini van - It comes in a 4x8 sheet and apparently is perfect for napping on if you are a dog.

This is what it looks like on the took three sheets to do this one and takes a bit of skill to line up perfectly - also remember you'll need to cut out holes where the outlets are or any light switches.

Once you have it installed, it's up to you how you finish it, but this is what I did:
Mixed CeCe Caldwell's Chalk Paint in Vintage White with water (half and half) and applied it to the wall using a waxing brush (round with long bristles)so that I could really work it into the cracks and divots.

Once it was dry, I wiped off each brick with a damp rag...the beauty of chalk paint! It's water soluble - I can't imagine doing this job with latex!

After the bricks were dry, I added a little bit of grey chalk paint here and there to create a more dimensional, authentic look.
Forgive the photo quality - these are all IPhone photos as I hadn't planned on blogging about this.
This is a little bit closer of a look at the wall near the bedside tables...

The room definitely feels bigger and cozier..
.Only problem now - I want new bedding, pillows, painted side walls, curtains....
Here's hoping you have a cozy room to curl up in!

Spruce Collective

Picture by Cristal at Level 6 Images
First let me apologize for the serious lack of blogging lately....disgusting! Now let me show you what I've been busy with...
Spruce Collective is now open!

The girls and I are thrilled at all the wonderful comments that we have received during our first week! Everyone has been so kind and encouraging - it has made all the hard work so worth it!

Special Note: YES we all get along and no we don't fight. Everyone is loving and supportive of each other so please stop asking us. You wouldn't ask a group of men that would you?
You'll someday see us in Entrepreneur Magazine doing a special report on women working together - mark my words on it!

We are also so thankful for your patience with our debit machine issues - many of you have been having a good laugh at our vintage credit card machine! This was not an intentional style decision but we seem to have everything working now! One of those frustrating growing pains! (I also aged myself this week by being the only one that knew how to use it)...hehehehe. Stop laughing now.
Anyway - the store looks beautiful - and we have also received our order of
Cece Caldwell Chalk and Clay Paint!
The creative projects will be starting up right away!

Like this table painted in Blue Montana Sky.
We will also be offering a number of creative of classes each month in our beautiful workshop! Our class schedule is available online here: Classes

We've been joking that if we were "Sister Wives" we would have the most beautiful house in Abbotsford! lol (we're not).
We get along better than them too...

We were flattered to have Cindy from Creating at Home blog about us this week - please check out her page for more beautiful pictures!

Vintage Styling For Playtime

The Spruce Collective team is made up of mommies in all stages of life. Between the five of us, we have ten children from "not born yet" to 23 years!

Being so in touch with that part of life has given us the wisdom to turn some of our potential storage space at the new store into a playroom for little people to enjoy themselves.
As we work hard to design a creative, inspiring atmosphere we want to cater to our young moms as well as their little ones. So, as I painted the floor today in that area of the store, I was daydreaming about how the finished area will look...
These are a few ideas in my mind and up for well as a few pictures that have inspired me this week.

Also, remember these? Weren't they the best?

What are your favorite toys from back in the day?
